Michael is a photographer and director.
As a young boy, Michael would smear paint on his face and balance the family point-and-shoot camera on a stack of books and set it to self timer. These self portraits were his first taste of image making and expressing himself through imagery.
This innate creativity has remained true throughout Michael’s artistic journey. He presents bold colours and daring subject matter, whilst not afraid of an element of play. His use of the human form and body language is key in creating his image sculptures.
As a self-taught photographer Michael has continuously shaped and reshaped his photographic style since he was a teenager. Growing up in the small coastal city of East London, South Africa, his move to the metropolis of Cape Town influenced his dynamic imagery, which combines sun-kissed bodies with bold colours and curved lines that reflect the natural landscape.
Michael got his first camera at the age of 16 and has been shooting non-stop ever since. Whilst attaining his bachelors degree in English, Media and Gender Studies with the dream of being a writer, he was exploring his photographic identity every chance he could. By the time he had finished his studies, photography had proven to be his real passion and he decided to put all his efforts into this field.
Michael’s passion for visual arts has taken him into motion. Wanting to see his love of shapes move and tell his already established story in new languages. Watch this space as his this adventure continues.
Michael also works in the field of fine arts. With 3 solo exhibitions of his shapely paint works, his visual universe in continuously expanding.
